Going by the engine specifications and figures, there is not much different in max power, but there is a considerable difference in the torque output of these two cars. Maruti Swift gets an advantage of being more punchy and easies to drive in congested traffic because of high torque. But there is a considerable turbo lag in Swift which means some gear downshifts required at times of congested traffic driving. So we would say Swift does better in terms of engine. Also Swift manages to deliver better mileage.

Ford Figo Diesel top end Titanium variant comes at a price slightly lesser than Swift Vdi model. Since the top end variant of Figo Diesel features safety features like airbags, ABS with EBD, Fog lamps, integrated audio system with Bluetooth connectivity  etc., it is a better value for money in its segment.

On the other hand, if you consider the fully loaded Swift Diesel Zdi, it comes at about Rs. 80,000 more than the Figo Titanium Diesel which is a considerable difference in price. Zdi comes loaded with ABS, airbags, integrated audio system without Bluetooth and Automatic climate control (which is not there in Figo).

If you are looking for a value for money family car, Ford Figo is better as it comes at much lower price for the top end features offered with Titanium variant. It does lack the features like climate control and does not match Swift in terms of handling, but it does handle well and offers a lot of features for the price.

If you are not much bothered to shell extra bucks and want top end performance and handling, you can overlook the fact that Figo better bang for the buck. For the enthusiasts and driving heads, Swift is the most affordable performance car in its segment. It may not be the best family car, but it surely is one of the best Driver’s car.

Maruti Suzuki has recently launched its Maruti Swift starting at Rs. 4.22 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi which is all set to compete with the small cars across various brands in India. In our Car Blog India Comparison Series, we start the comparison of Maruti Swift 2011 with the popular small car from Ford India, the Ford Figo. We will separately compared the petrol and diesel variants as the pricing of the petrol and diesel variants make them fall in separate buyer’s groups.

Maruti Swift 2011 Exteriors Vs Ford Figo Exteriors

Going by the exteriors, Maruti Swift has a very familiar look which is quite non-contemporary, but we are so used to of seeing it that it looks quite contemporary. In short, there are numerous fans of Swift who love it for its handling and like it for its out of the box looks. We like the changes in the new Swift, viz. improved front fascia, improved rear styling, better looking alloy wheels, larger looks while keeping the overall shape very similar to the old model of Swift.

Ford Figo on the other hand is more of a contemporary car design with high degree of elegance and appeal. Figo is neither extremely sporty nor it is popular for superb sporty handling, but it has got an elegance and different from the herd looks with it. I am personally not a big fan, but I admire the elegance and looks of Figo the way it look from exteriors. In a compact form factor, it manages to looks reasonably large and low.

Going by dimensions, Swift is Longer, slightly wider and taller than Figo. So overall, it looks larger.
So if you want your car to look compact, Figo is a better pick, however, I would go for Swift if purely based on exteriors.

Maruti Swift 2011 new model has improved significantly on the quality and aesthetic appeal.
While the colour tone has not changed greatly for the Swift,  the quality of plastics and interior
space have improved. The dashboard and console looks much better than the previous generation.
So overall, its pleasing to be inside this car and does not feel like a cheap car like the old model
fest because of low interior quality. However it does lack some gadgetry like Bluetooth audio and
phone pairing which competitors provide.

Ford Figo is known for its spacious interiors and comfort. The interiors are bright and give a good
sense of space. The interiors are of good quality and come with modern gadgetry and features.
The overall feel of Figo from inside is quite nice and gives you good vale in this segment. However, comparing with Swift, the width of the Figo is slightly lower which may mean less elbow space
for three passengers at rear, otherwise, in terms of overall space, Figo seems quite a good car
 from Inside.

If I have to pick one, I would consider this a tie and would like to consider remaining factors to
select between Figo and Swift 2011.

Handling and performance is a field, where Swift is the leader. So far in the hatchback segment,
there are only few cars which are admired so much for their handling as is Swift. Swift handles
quite well with a good power punch and is high revving. The engine is refined and revs to higher
 RPM without much trouble. The power delivery, control, handling and driver confidence while
 cornering and while at higher speeds is high.

Ford cars on the other hand are also great cars in terms on handling and Figo is no exception.
However, the Figo seems a bit underpowered if you compare it with swift, but in absolute sense,
 it pulls well.  With sharp and precise handling, Figo stands quite close to Swift 2011 in terms
of handling, but does not beat it in this aspect.

So in terms of Handling and performance, my vote goes to Swift 2011.

If you consider the prices of these two cars, the Swift looks overpriced. It commands a
premium for the handling and space even though it is not as loaded in features as Figo for the price
point. If we compare the top end variant of Figo Titanium Petrol with Swift Vxi variant for being
close in price with Figo being about Rs. 9,000 cheaper, you get a lot more features in Figo for
lesser price like the Audio system, ABS with EBD, Airbags, Integrated Bluetooth, but what it
 lacks is the rear power Windows and Automatic climate control.

If you consider the fully loaded Swift with ABS, EBD, Integrated Audio system (no Bluetooth support), 
Automatic climate control system (which Figo does not offer), its seems pricey with a difference of about 
Rs. 86,000 above the Maruti Swift. So Figo’s aggressive pricing gives it huge advantage with price conscious 
buyers in India.

If you are not on a tight budget and can afford to shell out premium for great handling and Maruti brand and 
service advantage, go for Swift Zxi.

If you are a value conscious buyer who wants high value for your money with high features, Figo may please 
you much better in terms of value. You can get a Figo Titanium with all safety features in less than the price of 
Swift Vxi. Even if you are on a budget and don’t care about the features much and want a driver’s car with high performance, Swift is your machine. But we recommend to go with safety features, which come at a premium 
with Swift, so better go for Figo Titanium if Swift Zxi is out of your budget.

Honda Jazz Facelift 2011 New Model

Honda SIEL India launches its small car with a facelift in India on 18th August 2011 with the global model updated. In some countries, Jazz is named as Honda Fit. Honda has already revealed the changes in the global Honda Fit and the same changes are reflected on the new Jazz. The major news is that there is no change in the structure of the car,the platform and body shell remains the same. So the question is what has changed? And the answer is quite precise, that is “looks”. The Honda Jazz 2011 new model will look slightly different from the previous model. The exteriors, interiors and probably the suspension and some other minor components have been upgraded. All in all, its not a major mechanical overhaul, rather its an aesthetic upgrade of the existing Jazz to make it look better and more modern.

The front bumper, head lamps, rear bumper, rear headlamps, instrument cluster illumination etc. have changed. Also there will be beige Interiors in the base and select variant of Jazz, the X variant will continue to have blue-black interiors. Jazz audio system will not come standard with the USB port for audio input. The Jazz X will get power folding outside rear view mirrors along with reclining rear seats on Jazz X and Jazz Select variant.

Two Door Suzuki Swift Sport 2012 Specifications & Features

 Suzuki will launch the Suzuki Swift Sport 2012 new model in Germany at the Frankfurt Motor Show starting in 2nd week of September 2011. The new Suzuki Swift 2012 Sports variant is a completely different car compared to Swift in terms of features and specifications. This 2 door sports car hatchback has an updated 1.6 Litre high performance engine M16A which produces a max power of 134.1 BHP @ 6900 RPM and maximum torque of 160 Nm @ 4400 RPM. The exterior dimensions remain same as the new generation Swift at 3890mm length, 1695mm width and 1510mm height. The wheelbase also remains same at 2430 mm with the front and rear track width being 1470mm and 1475mm respectively.

The 2012 New model Swift sport features a 6 speed manual transmission for superior control over the speeds and engine performance. The chassis has been kept light and stiff for better performance. The rear suspension of the Swift Sport 2012 has been modified and made stiffer for improved handling at higher speeds. On the engine front, it has got a high revving engine with DOCH 4 Cylinder MPFI Engine with Variable Valve timing (VVTI) system. It has also got twin exhaust,  all wheel disk brakes, electronic stability program or ESP and ABS system for effective braking. It rides on large 17 inch ally wheels for a strong road grip and performance.

On the Inside, Suzuki Swift Sport 2012 has got sport seats, seven airbags for improved safety, impact absorbing zones in the chassis of the car, high quality interiors with sporty finish. The Swift sport will be launched in Europe and has rare possibility to make it to India as the premium sports segment is not on Maruti’s priority list as of now. Those of you in UK can surely enjoy it as it will launched there in September 2011. We hop some day these sport variants will also make their way to Indian markets for the automobile enthusiast.

BMW X3 SUV 2011 New Model India Features

The much awaited SUV  from BMW, the BMW X3 is all set to enter the market on the coming 25th August and to our surprise, the company has started the pre-bookings ahead of its launch. The X3 section on the BMW website has been updated some of the details of the upcoming SUV and it also has a section for to pre-book the car.

People who are waiting for this new bimmer can actually take a tour of the car ell before its launch on the website and if you like it then go ahead with booking a brand new one.

Priced well around Rs. 40 Lakh, the car  is going to take on Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and Land Rover Freelander 2. With a new codename F25, similar to the F10 of BMW 5 Series, this car is a considerably improved iteration of the older generation X3 and is different in a number of ways. The front fascia is all new and completely revised making it look refreshed when compared to the on-going X3.

Though no major changes have been adopted, except for making it more aerodynamic, a new all chrome kidney grille and corona rings headlamps on the front, the overall appearance is certainly similar. SO the front and rear profile have been tweaked as per the new design cues but the side profile is again pretty much the same, except for a nice BMW X1 resembling roofline.

Taking the soaring petrol prices as a matter of concern, the company will offer only two CRDI diesel engine options with the car which are as follows:

• BMW X3 xDrive 30d which is a straight six-cylinder diesel unit capable of producing a maximum of 258 bhp and
• BMW X3 xDrive20d which is a four cylinder diesel unit capable of developing of 184 bhp of maximum power.

The engines will be coupled to an 8-speed steptronic automatic transmission to get the best possible economy on road. On the inside the car comes equipped with all leather seats, new 8.8 inch iDrive system and a number of other features. On the technological end, the car sports BMW’s efficient dynamic brake regeneration system, better aerodynamics, BMW’s Damping control, Performance Control and Electromechanical Power Steering.
