Piaggio To Increase Production Of Vespa Scooters In India

Piaggio is all set to launch the Vespa scooters in India which are highly anticipated for quite some time now. But apart from this very anticipated step that it will take in the coming months, the brand has also announced of increasing the scooter production capacity of its plants, making it capable of meeting the demands of the two wheeler segment.
The two wheeler segment in India is way more consuming than the car’s segment and assuming that the products from Vespa are good enough, the brand is all set to increase the number of units to be produced annually.


Ravi Chopra, chairman and managing director, Piaggio Vehicles India Pvt Ltd, said,“We see a tremendous opportunity for a range of scooters since this a market which is growing. So, we will double our scooter production capacities from 1.5 lakh annually, which is for the Vespa, to 3 lakh per annum by the first half of 2013 to produce this range of scooters,”

The company is also working on a new passenger variant of the successful commercial vehicle, Piaggio Ape and talking on the same Ravi Copra added, “We are developing a passenger variant for the Ape Mini Truck, currently operating as a small commercial vehicle which will come into the market by the end of this year. This is targeted at the low cost transportation segment and is not expected to eat into our three-wheeler passenger carrier market,”
